FAQs

Zip and Link mattresses are available in king size and super king size mattresses, and they are basically these mattresses split into two parts. Zip and link mattresses are usually purchased when access to bedrooms and stair wells could be an issue, or if a customer required a split tension mattress.
A split tension mattress is a mattress made up to two different tensions. These are usually purchased when a couple are of completely different weights and therefore both need a different tension. Most commonly a split tension mattress will come in the form of a zip and link.
All of our King size and Super king size mattresses are available in Zip & link and split tension mattresses.
Hi Ellen,
Our Zip and Link mattresses come with two sets of zips on the top and bottom of the inside edge of the mattress, meaning that when the mattresses are flipped, head to toe, they can be zipped back together again.
So, to answer your question, yes when your mattress is flipped it will still be able to be zipped together.
Kind Regards Rebecca
Good evening Paul, thank you for your message.

We are very sorry to hear about the issues you have had with your previous mattress.

Based on the information you have provided we would suggest that you opt for our Winston’s Premier British Wool 1500 Pocket Spring Mattress in a King size Zip & Link, with one side soft tension and the other side medium tension. This mattress is double sided and comes with a 30-year guarantee, 5-year bed care plan and a 200-night trail. Price of this mattress for a super king zip & link is £1899.99.

Please feel free to call us on 01612509200 if you have any more questions.

Kindest regards,
Rebecca
Hi Ashley,

If you have separate bedding, then you would not be able to zip up your zip and link Super King mattress and therefore it is completely ok to keep your mattress unzipped if that is what you are wanting to do.

Kind Regards
Reese
All of our mattresses are a minimum of 30cm deep and therefore we would suggest to all of our customers to buy extra deep fitted sheets, when purchasing a Winston’s beds mattress.
- Hello Mr Turner, thank you for considering a Winstons mattress.

Vi Spring are pioneers in the mattress industry, a lot of new and old companies have learnt a lot from their superb mattress making skills and this cannot be taken away from them, however a lot of our customers have been previous Vi Spring customers, most commonly for the reason you have also mentioned above, due to sagging.

Our most similar mattress to the Vi Spring Tiara Supreme is our 4 Row Hand Stitched Wool mattress. With 4 Rows of hand stitching, 5500 Springs and 4075 Grams of the finest British and Fleece Wool, this mattress will elevate your sleeping to another level. The model has 1 extra row of hand stitching, over 675 grams more fillings and over 2000 more pocket springs than the Vi Springs Tiara Supreme, however comes in at nearly half the price. Our Winstons 4 Row mattress also comes with a 30 year Guarantee, 5 year bed care plan and a 200 night trail.

I hope this information helps you Mr Turner, please feel free to call us on 01612509200 if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Rebecca
Hi Kathleen, so sorry to hear about your mattress woes.

I want to try and help you understand as to why your mattress has dipped in this way. Firstly, the tension of your old mattress was wrong, for your husband and your body weight you would have needed and still need a medium tension mattress, not a soft tension and this information should have disclosed to yourself when purchasing your previous mattress. Secondly mattresses dip when there are bare minimum fillings in the mattress, as over time these fillings will start to move essentially causing dips and lumps in the mattress, which moves us on to our third and final reason as to why your mattress could have dipped and that is not rotating and turning your mattress regularly. Regular turning and rotating of your mattress are essential to prevent the fillings from moving and clumping together and therefore needs to be done at least every 3 months. However, it was inevitable that your mattress was always going to have dipping and sagging issues due to the wrong tension be chose for your and your husband’s weight, therefore going forward we would advise the following:

- Purchase a mattress with a medium tension
- Follow the mattresses care guide in regard to rotating and turning the mattress
- Ensure the mattress has a GSM of 3800 and above

Please remember that it is industry standard for a mattress to dip 2.5cm, anything more than this would be classed as a dip or a sag.
Zip and Link mattresses are excellent solutions for narrow staircases and special size mattresses that exceed the Super King measurements. At Winstons beds we are fans of the Zip and Link mattress as we genuinely believe they hold many pros. Let us break this down for you.

Pros
- Solves narrow staircase issues
- Great for couples of different weights
- Split tension can be accommodated
- Easier to turn and rotate mattress

Cons
- Sensitive sleepers may feel the Zipper in the middle of the mattress.

At Winstons we have never experienced an issue with one of our Zip and Link customers feeling the zipper, however we cannot rule this potential issue out. However, this con can be easily rectified by placing a mattress topper over the top of the mattress, this will instantly remove the zipper feeling and elevate your mattresses comfort to another level immediately.

To conclude at Winston’s beds, we love ourselves a Zip and Link mattress and will always recommend them to our customers if we feel it is best suited for themselves.
Hi Darren, we are more than happy to help!

This is a very common issue, especially with high end mattresses, that tend to be a lot wider and heavier than budget mattresses, but don’t worry the solution to this problem is a Zip and link mattress. This would allow for your mattress to be taken upstairs in two separate parts, almost always resolving the issue. Now Zip and Link mattresses are not for everyone due to the zip in the middle of the mattress, but this can be resolved by placing a mattress topper over the mattress to ensure the zip cannot be felt. All of our mattresses at Winstons beds in a king and super king-size are available in Zip&Link. We also have a selection of 4 mattress toppers which are sure to elevate the feel of your mattress to another level.

A second solution to a narrow staircase is a bed in a box. Bed in a box mattresses are ensured to fit up any stair case, but remember these mattresses are not light and therefore if the company is not offering a room of choice delivery then be prepared for a 2 person lifting job to get the mattress upstairs. At Winstons, we advise to buy with caution when it comes to bed in a box as they tend to be seriously overpriced. This is why at Winstons we developed the best specked bed in a box on the market at the fairest price possible, double £799.99. Again bed in a box mattresses are not for everyone so please read our product page to see if they will work for you!
Hi Jane, Thanks for the question!

At Winstons we would advise against electric blankets being used with memory foam mattresses as the heat from the blanket can make the foam feel very soft, which can result in people struggling to find the mattress comfortable as it is not firm enough to support them properly. Furthermore it is still debatable that the heat from the blanket could be damaging to the mattress itself, resulting in the mattress dipping and sagging, this has not be proven but is still a possibility due to memory foams heat retention properties.

However, with a mattress that is 100% natural latex, you can use an electric blanket as this type of foam is significantly more resilient. The latex mattress may feel slightly softer, but not as much as memory foam. The only side effect of using an electric blanket with any foam mattress is that it will be hot! All foam mattresses have heat retention properties, (latex less so), which means they will absorb all the heat from the blanket potentially creating an un comfortable sleeping experience, therefore would suggest you consider a 100% natural fillings mattress as they are much cooler option than foam mattresses.

Our Winstons Ultimate Hybrid Latex Mattress and our Winstons Premier British Wool 1500 Pocket spring mattress would be compatible with an electric blanket.
