Medium Feel
Medium-feel mattresses are designed to offer a balance of support and comfort. However, before making your final selection, you should consider a few other things, including your favourite sleeping position, shape, weight and individual preference.
What is Mattress Feel?
The feel of a mattress refers to the initial feeling you experience. For example, are you sinking or lying on top of the mattress without any give? Are you experiencing pushback, or do you notice that the fibres are contouring around your body? You can ask these questions to determine whether a mattress has a soft, medium-soft, medium or medium-firm feel.
Winstons sleep experts have spent years working to ensure our medium-feel mattresses are grand, sumptuous and luxuriously comfortable but also deliver pressure-relieving properties and the underlying support you expect from a Winstons mattress. Here are some things you might like to think about before you make your final decision.
The Difference Between Spring Tension & Mattress Feel?
Feel
- Feel is dictated by the fibres used inside and is all about the feeling you experience when lying on a mattress. Does it reduce the pressure? Is there a lot of cushioning or pushback?
Spring tension
- Spring tension refers to how well the mattress keeps your spine in alignment and is determined by your body weight and sleeping position. For example, when you lay in your preferred sleeping position, do you feel like the mattress is lifting your spine in a straight line from your shoulders to your hips? By following our spring tension chart, you’ll be able to find a mattress that delivers the support you need in your preferred sleep position and is the correct spring tension for your body weight.
Sleeping position
- If you are a combination or back sleeper, a medium-feel mattress gives great all-around comfort for these positions, gently cradling your body while allowing you to feel raised up and out of the mattress.
Sleeper Frame Size and Body Weight
If you regard yourself as average-sized, you will most likely experience quality sleep for longer on a medium-feel mattress than on a soft, medium-soft or medium-firm one. If a person weighs 14-16 stone, then it is most likely that a medium-feel mattress will deliver better comfort and support. This does not mean that people with more or less weight cannot sleep well on a medium-feel mattress either. Ultimately it comes down to what feel you like.
Your Pillow
Your pillow is just as significant as the rest of your bed and is often overlooked. You may not achieve restful sleep if your neck and shoulders are not aligned and relaxed.
