Medium Firm Feel
Medium-firm feel mattresses are our firmest feel and the preferred choice for many customers and they are comfortable and lavish too. However, your weight, shape, personal preference and favourite sleeping position must be factored into your final choice.
What is Mattress Feel?
The feel of a mattress refers to the initial feeling you experience. For example, are you sinking or lying on top of the mattress without any give? Are you experiencing pushback, or do you notice that the fibres are contouring around your body? You can ask these questions to determine whether a mattress has a soft, medium-soft, medium or medium-firm feel.
A medium-firm feel should lift every part of your body squarely on top of the mattress with plenty of pushback. Stomach sleepers and heavier people may enjoy the extra heft from these mattresses.
The Difference Between Spring Tension & Mattress Feel?
Feel
- Feel is dictated by the fibres used inside and is all about the feeling you experience when lying on a mattress. Does it reduce the pressure? Is there a lot of cushioning or pushback?
Spring tension
- Spring tension refers to how well the mattress keeps your spine in alignment and is determined by your body weight and sleeping position. For example, when you lay in your preferred sleeping position, do you feel like the mattress is lifting your spine in a straight line from your shoulders to your hips? By following our spring tension chart, you’ll be able to find a mattress that delivers the support you need in your preferred sleep position and is the correct spring tension for your body weight.
Sleeping position
- The supportive nature of a medium-firm feel mattress helps with spine alignment, mainly if you prefer sleeping on your stomach. A medium-firm feel mattress is considered better for stomach sleepers and heavier people because it is more supportive and has a stable surface that lifts every part of your body squarely on top of the mattress with plenty of pushback and reduces lower back dip.
Sleeper Frame Size and Body Weight
Generally, a heavier person or stomach sleeper will experience better quality sleep on a medium-firm feel mattress than a softer one. For example, if a person weighs 16 stone or more, a medium-firm feel mattress will probably provide better support and comfort. Ultimately it all comes down to what you like.
Your Pillow
Your pillow is just as significant as the rest of your bed and is often overlooked. You may not achieve restful sleep if your neck and shoulders are not aligned and relaxed.
