Recently, we’ve seen many mattress brands incorporating organic components to make their mattresses more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
While many feature natural materials, the term “organic” is reserved for elements that have received certifications from reputable authorities, such as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Some of the most friendly organic materials used in today’s mattresses include natural latex, GOTS-certified organic cotton, and GOTS-certified organic wool.

Technically speaking, no mattress is 100% organic. Even the most eco friendly mattresses or natural mattresses contain springs, sealants, and other components that are at least partly synthetic. Certifications help us separate mattresses with sustainable materials from their impersonators. The certification should come from an impartial organisation and not be affiliated with a brand.

The leading chemical causing the most concern in mattresses is fire retardants. Multiple fire retardant chemicals are closely connected to herbicides and pesticides.
The chemicals are divided into two main classes
These substances can also be blended with Antimony Trioxide when utilised on mattress cover fabrics.
Today, many traditional mattresses in British homes comprise foam and polyester and are treated with flame retardants. They are also sometimes wrapped in flame-resistant fibres like polyvinylidene chloride and melamine. But, unfortunately, those substances aren’t really what you want on your skin for 6-8 hours a day.
Our plush organic mattresses are manufactured by combining natural and non-toxic materials like wool, cotton, alpaca, horsehair, mohair, bamboo, and latex. As a result, organic mattresses do not contain the harsh chemicals that traditional mattresses have. Instead, natural fibres like cotton and wool, the most common sources of mattress upholstery, are processed without dangerous chemical products or toxic substances.
We all know the chemicals in mattresses are causing health problems and that organic mattresses are much better for our health and the environment. But do organic mattresses offer that much more? The short answer is YES!
Materials
Organic mattresses are made from natural ingredients like wool, alpaca, mohair, horsehair cotton, and other natural fibres. They don’t contain synthetic materials, so they’re healthier for us than those filled with synthetic fillings.

At times chemicals are added to make the softest organic mattress. Still, these chemicals are not harmless, as many studies show they can cause many health problems.
