Who Makes Flaxby mattresses?

Flaxby Mattresses are produced by Harrison Spinks for Dreams Beds and belong to their exclusive collection of pocket spring mattresses, catering to the Dreams mattresses buyer seeking a natural materials product from a trustworthy brand.

Flaxby Mattress Review

Based on Flaxby mattresses reviews on Trustpilot, several concerns have arisen regarding their products. Customers have expressed dissatisfaction with mattress issues such as dips and sags, which have led to backaches. Additionally, some customers have noted that the mattress quality did not meet their expectations, and they were unhappy with the level of customer service provided.

Trustpilot reviews reveal the following customer complaints:

  1. Sagging
  2. Back pain
  3. Disrupted sleep
  4. Too hard
  5. Dipping
  6. Uncomfortable

Out of the 60 Trustpilot reviews on Flaxby mattresses, the distribution is as follows:

  • 11 one-star reviews
  • 3 two-star reviews
  • 0 three-star reviews
  • 6 four-star reviews
  • 40 five-star reviews

With 14 out of 60 customers expressing dissatisfaction, a small portion of customers appears to be unhappy with their Flaxby mattress.

It is crucial to consider that the Trustpilot reviews for the Flaxby mattress collection are based on a relatively small sample size of 60 reviews. Despite the 11 one-star reviews, Dreams sells significantly more Flaxby mattresses annually. Therefore, the rating on Trustpilot may not accurately represent the overall performance of their products. The limited number of one-star reviews could instead indicate the high quality and durability of the Flaxby range.

Dreams Beds has a lengthy history of selling budget to mid-range mattresses using traditional craftsmanship. The company is renowned for its commitment to sustainability and dedication to delivering a comfortable and restful sleep experience for customers. Calico pocket springs Vs Micro springs

When Winston Beds first launched, our range of mattresses was entirely different from what we offer today. Initially, we used Micro Springs from Harrison Spinks, just like Dreams does for their Flaxby range. However, we soon realized that to truly provide the best mattresses in the world, we needed to make a significant change. That’s why we discontinued that entire range in favor of the much more luxurious calico pocket springs and higher GSM of fibres.

Calico springs and spun bond micro springs are two distinct types of spring systems used in mattresses. While both have their merits, calico springs are undoubtedly the superior option, boasting numerous advantages that have led luxury brands such as Savoir and Vispring to choose them over the cheaper alternative of micro springs.

Calico springs are individually encased in high-quality, breathable calico fabric pockets, which allows for better air circulation and a more comfortable sleeping environment. This design also results in a more responsive spring system that adapts to the body’s contours and provides excellent support. Furthermore, calico springs tend to be hand-sewn, giving them an extra touch of craftsmanship and durability that sets them apart from their counterparts.

On the other hand, spun bond micro springs are made by thermally bonding polyester fibres, which results in a less breathable and less durable product. While they may be a more cost-effective option, they do not offer the same level of luxury and comfort as calico springs.

By incorporating calico pocket springs and high GSM fibers in our mattresses, we at Winston Beds have elevated our products to new heights of luxury and quality. The benefits of calico springs are numerous, including:

  1. Enhanced breathability: The calico fabric pockets allow for better air circulation, helping to regulate temperature and maintain a comfortable sleeping environment.
  2. Superior support: The individual pocketing of calico springs enables them to better adapt to the body’s contours, providing unparalleled support and pressure relief.
  3. Durability and longevity: Calico springs are hand-sewn, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship that translates to a longer-lasting, more durable product.
  4. Noise reduction: The fabric pockets surrounding each spring minimize noise, contributing to a more peaceful and undisturbed night’s sleep.
  5. Luxury and prestige: By using calico springs, we align ourselves with the esteemed brands like Savoir and Vispring, ensuring that our customers enjoy a truly luxurious sleep experience.

Our decision to transition from spun bond micro springs to calico pocket springs has allowed Winston Beds to offer some of the best mattresses in the world. By focusing on quality, luxury, and craftsmanship, we’ve created products that not only stand the test of time but also provide an unparalleled sleeping experience.

Micro Springs Outdone: Natural Fibres Reign Supreme!

Micro springs generally come in counts of 2,000 to 4,000 springs per layer, with the heights of each layer ranging between 1-3cm. While micro springs might be a cheaper option for mattress manufacturers, they do not necessarily provide the best quality for the customer. The most expensive component of a mattress is the fibre content, and because micro springs are significantly cheaper, manufacturers can use more of them, sell the mattress at a higher price point, and make more profit. Although this may be good for a business’s bottom line, it does not offer the best value for the customer, as they end up with a subpar quality mattress when they could have paid a little more or less for a significantly higher-spec mattress with a higher GSM of fillings.

The more springs a mattress has, the less space there is for natural fibres. For example, consider the Flaxby Nature’s Finest 11150 mattress, which is 24cm deep. The mattress has a core spring unit of 1,000 to 1,500 springs, with each spring measuring approximately 15cm, a standard size across the industry. In addition, there are four layers of micro springs that measure a total of approximately 4cm. This results in a total of 19cm of space used for steel springs, leaving only 5cm for fibre content. This limited space for fibres can lead to a mattress that sags, dips, and becomes uncomfortable quickly, which is why the guarantee is only five years.

In conclusion, it is important for customers to be aware that more springs can mean less space for the more expensive and essential part of a mattress, which is the fillings. Choosing a mattress with a higher GSM of fillings will provide better quality, durability, and comfort, ensuring a more satisfying sleep experience in the long run

Unveiling the truth: mattress gsm’s crucial role & manufacturers’ hidden agenda

What does mattress fibre GSM mean?

GSM stands for “grams per square meter” and refers to the weight and density of fibres used in a mattress. In the context of mattresses, a higher GSM means more fibres are packed into a given area, resulting in a denser, more luxurious feel.

Why is it so important to know the GSM of the mattress?

Knowing the GSM of a mattress is crucial because it provides insight into the quality and comfort of the mattress. Without this information, you might end up paying more or the same for a product of significantly less quality. For instance, a mattress with thousands of micro springs may have fewer quality fillings, which is not good value for money, as you’re paying more for a cheaper component. Understanding the GSM helps you make an informed decision, ensuring you get the best value for your investment.

Why do manufacturers not want customers to know the GSM?

Many mattress brands and manufacturers avoid disclosing the GSM because it allows customers to easily compare products and determine which mattress offers the best value for money and the most luxurious experience. By withholding this information, manufacturers can maintain a level of ambiguity, making it more challenging for customers to assess the true quality and value of a mattress. This tactic can potentially lead to customers paying more for a mattress with a lower GSM, which benefits the manufacturer’s bottom line but may leave customers with a less satisfying sleep experience.

Say no to one-sided mattresses: embrace double-sided comfort

A one-sided mattress, especially a one-sided pillow top mattress, may initially seem like a convenient option, but it has several disadvantages that customers should consider. The Flaxby range is an example of one-sided pillow top mattresses.

Negative points of a one-sided pillow top mattress:

  • Limited lifespan: Since you cannot flip a one-sided pillow top mattress, it is more prone to wear and tear on the side in use. This can significantly shorten the mattress’s overall lifespan, ultimately costing you more in the long run.
  • Uneven wear: With only one usable side, the pillow top is subjected to continuous pressure, leading to uneven wear and potential sagging or dipping over time. This can negatively impact your sleep quality and comfort.
  • Reduced support: As the pillow top layer compresses over time, the mattress may lose its initial support, potentially causing discomfort and affecting your sleep quality.
  • Limited options for customization: One-sided pillow top mattresses don’t allow you to adjust the firmness or comfort by flipping the mattress, which can be a disadvantage if your preferences change over time.

At Winston’s, we have addressed these issues by creating two-sided pillow top mattresses. Our innovative design attaches the topper to the mattress using buttoned handles, allowing both the core mattress and the topper to be turned and rotated. This design offers several benefits:

  • Extended lifespan: By being able to flip and rotate the mattress and topper, you can distribute wear and tear more evenly, prolonging the life of your mattress.
  • Consistent support and comfort: With the ability to flip and rotate both the core mattress and the topper, you can maintain even wear, preventing sagging or dipping, and ensuring consistent support and comfort over time.
  • Customisation options: A two-sided pillow top mattress allows for adjustments in firmness and comfort by changing the topper, catering to your evolving preferences and ensuring a personalised sleep experience.
  • Better value for money: A two-sided pillow top mattress with an extended lifespan and consistent support offers better value for your investment, saving you money in the long run.

In conclusion, while one-sided pillow top mattresses may seem appealing at first, their disadvantages can lead to a less satisfying sleep experience. Opting for a two-sided pillow top mattress, such as those offered by Winston’s, provides a more durable, comfortable, and customizable sleep solution.

In terms of depth, the Flaxby Nature’s Finest 14450 Pillow Top Mattress is 30cm deep, while the Winstons Highland Pillow Top Mattress has a depth of 44cm. A thicker mattress provides improved comfort and support for a restful night’s sleep.

Lastly, our confidence in the quality of the Winstons Highland Mattress is reflected in our 30-year guarantee, compared to the 5-year guarantee provided by Flaxby Nature’s Finest 14550 Mattress. Make the right investment in your sleep and choose the Winstons Highland Mattress for unparalleled comfort and durability.

What is inside a Flaxby mattress?

Flaxby mattresses are made using traditional methods employ micro pocket springs as a cost-effective alternative to natural fibres. Natural fibres are pricier than steel springs due to the processes involved in sourcing, harvesting, and refining these materials. Natural fibres, such as cotton, wool, horsetail and silk, provide excellent comfort, support, breathability, temperature regulation, and moisture-wicking properties, making them highly desirable in premium mattresses. However, their cost can be prohibitive for some manufacturers and consumers.

Micro pocket springs are smaller versions of traditional pocket springs, designed to offer targeted support and pressure relief. While they can replicate some of the comfort benefits of natural fibres, they may not provide the same level of breathability and temperature regulation. Additionally, due to their smaller size and the increased number of individual springs, micro pocket springs might be more prone to wear and tear over time. This can lead to a shorter mattress lifespan and diminished support.

When selecting a mattress, it’s essential to consider the advantages and disadvantages of micro pocket springs and natural fibres based on factors such as budget, durability, and personal preferences. If you value long-term durability and the superior comfort properties of natural fibres, it may be worthwhile to invest in a wool mattresses containing a higher percentage of these materials.

Types of Flaxby mattresses

Selecting the ideal mattress involves several factors, such as your preference for a softer or firmer feel, whether you’ll use a mattress topper for added comfort, or if you need a built-in feature. Additionally, if you share your bed, you might require a split tension mattress.

Now, let’s explore the various Flaxby collection types available at Dreams.

Pocket Sprung Mattresses

Pocket sprung mattresses offer a bouncy feel, thanks to their individually encased springs that enhance rest. Flaxby’s offerings boast either 2475 or 8289 pocket springs each—an impressive number! These mattresses are ideal for those who desire a firmer surface for a sound slumber.

Pillow Top Mattresses

While comfort is essential in a mattress, some may seek an additional plush top layer. Many opt for a mattress topper to achieve this combination of surface softness and underlying support. However, Flaxby nature’s pillow top mattresses integrate both elements in a single unit, making them perfect for side sleepers and those who enjoy enveloping comfort after a long day.

DNAir Mattresses

DNAir mattresses prioritize comfort above all. Featuring perforated sides for enhanced airflow, these mattresses facilitate better ventilation. This design serves two purposes: it helps you stay cool during sleep by allowing heat to escape through the mattress, and it extends the mattress’s lifespan. Proper mattress care is still necessary, but this feature is undeniably advantageous. DNAir mattresses are available in soft, medium, and firm comfort grades, ensuring a personalized selection.

Are Flaxby mattresses any good?

The Flaxby mattress collection boasts an impressive average reviews score of 4.7/5, indicating that they are made by a good brand and offer excellent quality. However, the 5-year guarantee may be considered less than ideal for a high-priced and “premium” mattress.

It’s worth noting that Flaxby mattresses use white fibre, also known as polyester, which prevents them from being classified as 100% natural mattresses. The most expensive model in the Flaxby range, the Nature’s Finest 14450, only features three layers of blended natural fibres. This is quite different from the hand-teased fibres used by other brands, such as Winstons. Hand-teased fibres are typically considered superior, as they are individually separated and laid by hand for enhanced comfort and quality, while pre-manufactured pads are mass-produced.

Additionally, the Flaxby Nature’s Finest 14450 appears to use three layers of polyester, which is somewhat disappointing at this price range. Customers might expect higher-quality fillings and hand-teased fibres instead

Taking these factors into account, the cost of Flaxby mattresses may not accurately reflect the materials used inside. While they do have excellent review scores and are made by a respected brand, potential buyers should carefully consider whether the premium price is justified given the use of blended pads and polyester layers.

How much does a Flaxby mattress cost?

Prices for Flaxby range from approximately £639 for a single to £3399 for a super king, depending on the quality of the fillings or mattress offers. However, the firmness of these mattresses doesn’t generally influence the price more over its the size where a super king size mattress can be the most expensive and a single and small double mattress being cheaper, so you should be able to find a mattress with your desired firmness level within any price range.
